How transformacy helped Moonrise Media turn existing values into formal, verifiable evidence — building the policies, emissions baseline, and reporting structures needed to achieve B Corp certification, and laying the foundations for confident, sustainable growth.

Client Intro
Moonrise Media builds narrative infrastructure for organisations whose mission depends on protecting human dignity - architected, not filmed, by a former software architect who spent forty years building systems before he built stories.

Founded by Will Hopkins, Moonrise already lived many of its values day-to-day: reducing material use where possible through second hand purchases, sourcing locally wherever possible, getting stuck into community work, and donating significant pro-bono time to causes they believe in. What they needed wasn't a culture shift - it was a framework to capture, formalise and evidence what they were already doing.

The Challenge

The primary aim of the project was to help Moonrise translate their existing practices into a structure that would stand up to scrutiny - specifically, B Corp certification. Our goal was to work with Moonrise to formalise their commitment to ethical, community-rooted business, ensuring their pro-bono work, procurement choices and positive employee practices were properly documented, measurable and ready for review.

Solution

transformacy began with a baseline assessment of Moonrise's current practices, including a full Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions baseline to understand their operational footprint and identify where future reduction efforts should focus. From there, we worked with Moonrise to develop a suite of policies, including policies to formally recognise and structure the community and charitable work they were already delivering.

Part of Moonrise's achievements this year included achieving their Living Wage Employer status - in line with this, we're working with Moonrise to build their first Impact Report: a document designed to capture the full scope of their social and environmental contributions, with particular focus on the pro-bono work that's long been part of their story.

Results
Through our work together, Moonrise has been able to formalise the values it already lived by, gain recognition for its impact, and put in place the foundations needed for sustainable growth.

Key results include:

  • B Corp Certification: Moonrise is now a Certified B Corporation™, a formal recognition of the ethical and community-focused way they've always done business.
  • Living Wage Employer Status: Moonrise is accredited as a Living Wage Employer, reinforcing their commitment to fair pay.
  • Emissions Baseline: A full Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions baseline, giving Moonrise a clear starting point for future carbon reduction and target setting.
  • Policy Formalisation: A bespoke set of organisational policies - embedding Moonrise's existing ethical and community commitments into formal governance.
  • Growth-Ready Foundations: With policies, baselines and reporting structures in place, Moonrise is positioned to grow with confidence, with an Impact Report in development to showcase the full breadth of their social and environmental contribution.

Client Testimonial
"Even as a two-person business, it's my dream and as the founder, like so many others, I was juggling oh so, and way too, many balls at once.

Achieving B Corp status was something that meant, and now means, SO MUCH to me. In a world of so much perceived negativity and let's face it, at times downright hate, standing for something that benefits people and the world is REALLY important.

But it's not easy becoming a certified B-Corp - and quite rightly so. It takes a lot of deep corporate and personal soul searching and a great deal of effort to prove you mean what you say & feel.

The soul searching is down to you but the proving, with statements and policies, ESPECIALLY for a "nano-business" with no reason to otherwise have ANY policies in place just adds to those balls being juggled.

transformacy's guidance and assistance was invaluable. Going into this process I was so enthusiastic but a few weeks after agreeing to sign up for a reasonable chunk of cash I entered the inevitable "What AM I thinking of?" "This is such a fake getting someone to 'do this'".

Seriously I am SO SO glad that I worked with transformacy. I soon came to see them as exactly what they were, an outsourced department handling my certification process. Any medium or larger sized company would have a team of people doing this, why should I have to do it on my own?

I am proud to consider transformacy as 'part of my team'." - Will Hopkins, Narrative Architect and Founder, Moonrise Media

Inspiration
Moonrise's journey is a reminder that impact isn't measured by the size of a business, but by the sincerity behind it. Almost everything B Corp asks a company to prove was already there in how Will ran Moonrise — the second-hand purchasing, the local sourcing, the hands-on community work, and the significant pro-bono time given to causes he believes in. What was missing was never the values, or even the action; it was the structure to capture them and the evidence to stand them up to scrutiny.

That's what makes this story special. As a two-person "nano-business", Moonrise had every excuse to leave its good practice undocumented — and instead chose the deep, sometimes uncomfortable work of proving it. With B Corp certification secured, Living Wage Employer status achieved, a full Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions baseline in place, and an Impact Report now in development, Moonrise has the foundations to grow with confidence — carrying forward the same commitment to human dignity that inspired the business in the first place.
