The Certification Process

Companies must complete the B Impact Assessment and meet a series of eligibility and performance requirements aligned with seven impact topics. All companies must demonstrate continuous improvement and meet additional requirements at 3 and 5 years post-certification.

Our Methodology

Our strength in B Corp certification lies with both our expert B Corp consultants and our proven methodology. This collaboration ensures we efficiently, and effectively drive your business towards success through both commercial and environmental initiatives.

Recertification & Reporting

Businesses are required to recertify every five years. Once certified, companies are required to continuously improve their social and environmental performance over the five year period and undergo surveillance audits in years three and five. In addition, businesses are required to produce annual Impact Reports outlining their progress to create positive impact in the interim years.

B Corp Pricing

To become a Certified B Corporation eligible companies must submit their B Impact Assessment, paying a submission and verification fee during the certification process, and then paying an annual fee as a member of the B Corp community. These fees differ by revenue size.

What are the new B Corp standards?

B Lab's V2 standards replace the points-based B Impact Assessment with mandatory requirements across seven Impact Topics, with further requirements at Year 3 and Year 5 and certification through third-party audit. All new applicants now certify on the new standards.

Is there still a B Impact Assessment score?

No. Under the V2 standards, companies no longer need a score of 80 or more. Instead they must meet defined requirements across seven Impact Topics. Many of the practices that earned points under the old assessment remain relevant, but they are now assessed as requirements met or not met.

How long does B Corp certification take in the UK?

Preparation typically takes 3 to 6 months depending on your starting point, followed by B Lab's verification and audit process, which can add several months. A readiness assessment gives the most accurate timeline for your business.

How much does B Corp certification cost for a small business?

B Lab charges submission, verification and annual certification fees that vary by company revenue, with lower fees for smaller businesses. Consultancy support is separate and depends on your readiness. We provide a fixed quote following a free consultation.

Is B Corp certification worth it for a small business?

For many small businesses, yes. B Corp certification can strengthen customer trust, support recruitment and retention, and differentiate the business with buyers and investors. It requires sustained commitment, so a readiness assessment and go/no-go decision are recommended before starting.

Can start-ups become B Corps?

Yes. There is no minimum size, and requirements are scaled to company size. Companies under a year old can pursue Pending B Corp status while they establish a track record.
